Tom Tykwer's new thriller "The International" is set to open the 59th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival on Feb. 5, 2009.
In the film, Clive Owen stars as an Interpol agent trying to bring down an international bank. Naomi Watts, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Brian F. O'Byrne and Ulrich Thomsen co-star.
German filmmaker Tykwer's international career really took off with "Run, Lola, Run," which became a big hit when it was released in 1998. He also directed "Heaven" and "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer."
The Berlin International Film Festival is still Germany's most prestigious fim event. It will run through Feb. 15. For more information, head over to the festival's official Web site.
By the way, "The International" will hit U.S. theaters Feb. 13, 2009.
