Franck Tabouring Seth Gordon's holiday comedy "Four Christmases" jumped to the top of the North American box office on Thanksgiving Day with $8.9 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Friday.
The comedy starring Vince Vaugh and Reese Witherspoon as a couple visiting their four divorced parents lifted its domestic total to $15 million after Wednesday's opening day gross of $6.1 million.
Slipping to No. 2 was Catherine Hardwicke's "Twilight," which generated $5.1 million to reach a total haul of $93.3 million after barely one week in theaters. The film should have no trouble breaking the $100 million mark by the end of today.
Meanwhile, Marc Forster's "Quantum of Solace" pulled in another $4.5 million in third place, bringing its cumulative gross to $122.5 million. Following at No. 4 was Walt Disney's "Bolt," which collected $4.3 million for a $40.2 million total.
This week's other new releases didn't perform as strongly as expected. Baz Luhrmann's epic adventure "Australia" picked up $2.9 million Thursday ($5.2 million total gross), while Olivier Megaton's "Transporter 3" finished sixth with $2.8 million ($6.1 million cumulative gross).
