'Twilight' scores $35.7 million Friday

Franck Tabouring Catherine Hardwicke's "Twilight" delivered a strong debut at the North American box office Friday, reaching a total gross of $35.7 million. This includes the film's $7 million from Thursday's midnight screenings.
The vampire romance based on Stephenie Meyer's novel is now on track to make even more than the previously estimated $60 million opening weekend gross. In the film, Kristen Stewart plays a human who falls in love with a vampire (Robert Pattinson).
Meanwhile at No. 2, Marc Forster's "Quantum of Solace" collected an impressive $8.7 million, lifting its total haul to 90.8 million after only two weeks in release. Debuting in third place with $7.1 million was Disney's "Bolt," the widest new release this weekend.
"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" dropped to No. 4 Friday, earning $3.7 million and reaching a domestic total of $125.1 million. Following in fifth place was David Wain's comedy "Role Models," wich took home another $2.4 million. The film's cumulative stands at $43.2 million.
