Steve Carell is 'Despicable'

Steve Carell has joined the voice cast of Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin's upcoming 3D-animated family flick "Despicable Me."

According to Variety, Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement, Jack McBrayer and Julie Andrews are also on board.

Carell will give his voice to Groo, an evil man who plans to steal the moon. While his evil mother encourages him to execute his plan, Groo runs into trouble when he's unexpectedly put in charge of three orphan girls.

Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, the team behind "Horton Hears a Who!," wrote the script. Chris Meledandri will lead production of the project, which is scheduled for a 2010 release.

Carell was last seen in "Get Smart." The comedian actor known for his role on "The Office" has several projects coming up, including "Date Night" with Tina Fey and "The Beaver," in which he walks around with a beaver puppet.
