Meryl Streep to observe cat in 'Dewey'
Meryl Streep is in talks to star in the big-screen adaptation of Vicki Myron's "Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World."
The film follows an author who works in a library and observes the impact a small kitten has on the town after it enters the property through book return slot on a chilly night.
Variety says Pamela Gray ("Betty Anne Waters") is writing the screenplay, with New Line Cinema developing the project.
Streep was last seen in Universal's international hit "Mamma Mia!" She will next star in John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt," followed by "Julie & Julia" and an untitled Nancy Meyers project.
Final word: Miaowwwww.

Dewey was dropped into a book return slot ONE cold night in northwest Iowa. The library staff, led by the "Dewey" author warmed Dewey up, fed him, and decided to keep him at the library. He doesn't go in and out of the book return slot.
