John Travolta says no to ‘Hairspray 2’?

Moviehole reports Travolta recently talked to Australia’s The Sunday Herald Sun, saying he would probably not return as Edna Turnblad for a sequel to last year’s hit musical.
"I think once is enough", Travolta said. "I did it and I did it well but I'm not a big sequel guy".
Back in July, we reported New Line Cinema was in early stages to develop “Hairspray 2,” with John Waters writing a treatment for the movie before the studio hires a screenwriter.
Again, I agree with Travolta. “Hairspray” was a whole load of fun and it brought in plenty of money, but I couldn’t care less about a follow-up.
That said, we’re talking about Hollywood people, and the folks working on the sequel will certainly find a new Edna. But would you return to theaters for another round of “Hairspray”?

I wouldn't return to see the 2nd one because john travolta played the greatest edna ever, and if he didn't do it i would go see it, please john do edna just one more time!
too bad, edna character is hard to play and john did it successfully. thus the voice is original and fit with wilbur. i respect with john choice. hopefully he will change his mind soon for sake of fans. =) this movie change a lot of my lovely relationship with my GF. i feel happy and lovely~ :)
yes, i don't particularly think that it needs a sequel, because it actually originally a movie turned broadway musical turned movie again, and i don't really think that a sequel to the story line is really required. i mean, what the heck would happen? but i'd probably go and see it at the theatres just to see what it's like and if it's any good compared to the "first" movie [=

I am like ure biggest fan from Romania... well I am 17... and I watched u in movies since I was a kiddddddd,,, and I love to see u play in movies... John does have a point. Hairspray IS a good movie, but I say enough is enough. It is cool they're making a sequel, but, why? The movie is based off the musical and there is not another musical. :| And I'm not trying to be mean, but some of you guys said for him to please do it again. The truth is, the sequel is already filmed! Sorry guys, but he's just not in the movie. (PS, if he did say yes that's good! Idk if he's in the movie or not because it comes out in 2010. So please don't get all mad.) And I'm probably not going to see the 2nd because it does sound stupid since the first Edna was John and now there's going to be a new Edna. Sounds kinda dumb, right? I know. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not telling you not to see the movie, I'm just saying it sounds dumb. They shouldn't have even thought about making a sequel anyway. TOO MUCH DRAMA.
