John Moore's "Max Payne" is Hollywood's latest video game adaptation. Starring Mark Wahlberg, the flick centers on a detective who seeks to avenge the murders of his wife and child. Mila Kunis, Beau Bridges, Chris O’Donnell and Ludacris co-star. Wanna know what the Web's film critics say about it? Let's check:

Cinematical's Eric. D. Snider: "For a movie based on a video game, there's a curious dearth of action in Max Payne."

• Katey Rich at Cinema Blend: "The movie gets an extra half a star for its production design, which at least looks good, and for having the decency not to run longer than two hours."

• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "I will say 'Max Payne' is better than 'Hitman,' but that's only in the sense that it doesn't have any of those gut-wrenching attempts at real drama."

• Neil Miller at FilmSchoolRejects: "We are driven to frustration by the arduous nature of the film, which spends the bulk of its 100-minute run time showing us how Max Payne went from top cop to emo-wanderer."

Joblo's JimmyO: "There are many a times when the story is beyond comprehension. I kept wondering how they got from A to Z… hell, I was wondering how they got from A to B a few times."
