'Body of Lies' web reviews

Last year, Ridley Scott gave us the excellent "American Gangster." Now, he returns to the big screen with "Body of Lies," a thriller starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Russell Crowe. In the film, DiCaprio play a CIA operative who forms uneasy alliances to uncover a major terrorist leader. Let's see what the Web's critics say:

• Katey Rich at Cinema Blend: "As a globe-hopping, us vs. them thriller, 'Body of Lies' isn't half bad, sprinkling in well-shot action and some moments of genuine suspense."

Cinematical's James Rocchi: "'Body of Lies' provides few surprises, nor does it make the kind of bold statements or offer the kind of big-picture view that might raise the audience out of merely sitting in the dark to take in the spectacle."

• Ron Henriques at LatinoReview: "DiCaprio and Farahni play off each other well, but their developing friendship pales in comparison to the double-crosses, God's eye view surveillance footage and dramatic tension which are the film's chief drawing power despite the fact that it tells a good story."

Collider's Brian Orndorf: "'Body of Lies' is a mediocre espionage film tarted up as a prestigious offering, cast with blinding stars, directed by a once mighty visionary, and drawing from topical source material meant to provoke chills and international thought."

• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "The premise is interesting, although weak if looked at through a microscope. However, the action sequences (one helicopter chase in particular) and solid acting were enough for me to take a lot of enjoyment out of this film."

Apparently Ridley Scott enjoys working with Russell Crowe; and he likes to make movies that raise international awareness (i'm thinking Blackhawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven)... that's a good thing i'd say
