junosoundtrack.jpgrating9.gif

Listened to first: January 2, 2008

The players: Barry Louis Polisar, Kimya Dawson, The Kinks, Buddy Holly, Mateo Messina, Belle & Sebastian, Sonic Youth, Mott The Hopple, Cat Power, Antsy Pants, The Velvet Underground, Moldy Peaches, Michael Cera & Ellen Page

Facts of interest: Director Jason Reitman asked actress Ellen Page what she thought Juno would listen to. She replied with "Moldy Peaches." Reitman contacted Kimya Dawson and loved all of her work, which later became most of the soundtrack.

The genres: Anti-Folk, English Pop/Rock, Indie Pop, Alternative, Acoustic, 1950's and 1960's American Rock

Our quick thoughts:. Mature topics depicted with a certain childlike flair are what bring the movie and the soundtrack together in perfect harmony. The lighthearted, charming, and sometimes even funny lyrics portray the characters and storyline of "Juno" faultlessly. Make sure to watch out for Kimya Dawson, The Moldy Peaches and Antsy Pants. These definitely set the tone for the whole CD.

Must listen to: The adapted version of "Anyone Else but You" performed by Michael Cera and Ellen Page.

The final word: If you aren't a fan of anti-folk before watching the movie, an appreciation will certainly be gained after. The album is a must-have. Stash a copy in your car and never take it out again!
