2007 Golden Globe Awards
“Atonement” was named best motion picture drama at the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards, announced during a live press conference on Sunday.
The official ceremony had been cancelled due to the ongoing writer’s strike, forcing the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to come up with an alternative plan to announce this year’s winners.
Tim Burton’s bloody musical “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” took home the award for best motion picture comedy or musical, while Johnny Depp was named best actor.
Daniel Day-Lewis won best actor in a motion picture drama for his electrifying performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood.” Julie Christie took home the award for best actress in a motion picture drama for her role in Sarah Polley’s drama “Away From Her.”
The biggest surprise of the night was Marion Cotillard’s win as best actress in a movie comedy or musical for her performance in “La Vie en Rose.” Even more unexpected was the announcement of the award for best director, which went to Julian Schnabel for “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.”
Other winners included Cate Blanchett, who won best supporting actress for “I’m Not There”; Javier Bardem, who took home the best supporting actor award for “No Country for Old Men”; and “Ratatouille,” which was named best animates film.
