"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"

sweeneytodd.jpgrating8.gif

Seen on: December 23, 2007

The players: Director: Tim Burton, Writer: John Logan, Stephen Sondheim, Cast: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman

Facts of interest: Based on the Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim.

The plot: Upon his return to London after spending some years in prison, Sweeney  Todd, a skilled barber, swears to take his revenge against the powerful people who destroyed his family.

Our quick thoughts: Tim Burton delivers a beautifully dark world setting the stage for a profoundly moral tale with fantastic decors, suspense, intense violence and incredibly electrifying music. Johnny Depp masters his role as Sweeney Todd with subtlety and skill, and he's supported by a better-than-ever Helena Bonham Carter. "Sweeney Todd" is coming, and he's leading on of the year's most original films.

Freaky quote: "At last my arm is complete again!" - Johnny Depp

The final word: Once again, Tim Burton flawlessly manages to pull his audiences into a magical world in which nothing is as it seems. "Sweeney Todd" is undoubtedly one of his most powerful works so far.

Glad to hear this one's good. Sometimes Broadway musicals really suck in movie form. Like "The Producers." That shiz effing sucked, man.

This is a great movie..I already have the soundtrack! Who knew Johnny Depp could sing? I guess you have to be a theater fan to appreciate some musicals made into movies, (like "The Producers") but not this one. You just have to be a fan of movies in general.
