Seen on: December 22, 2007

The players: Director: Joe Wright, Writer: Christoper Hampton, Cast: James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, Vanessa Redgrave, Saoirse Ronan

Facts of interest: Joe Wright also directed "Pride & Prejudice." Based on a novel by Ian McEwan.

The plot: After a 13-year-old girl falsley accuses her older sister's lover of raping a young girl, he is escorted to prison where he gets the chance to join the army.

Our quick thoughts: "Atonement" is a masterpiece. Director Joe Wright has taken an intriguing story and brought it to life on the big screen in the most wonderful way possible. Blessed with gorgeous images, a compelling score and fantastic acting performances, this drama is as exciting as filmmaking can get. The plot keeps you prisoner until the very last scene, pulling you into a world in which sudden tragedies caused great distress to beauty, freedom and the people.

Freaky quote: "I love you. I'll wait for you. Come back. Come back to me. " - Keira Knightley

The final word: Clearly one of the year's best films and one of the most flawless adaptations I have ever encountered in cinema.

Know what's weird about this one? None of the trailers have straight up said he's been accused of rape. It's all implied, but nobody has come out and actually said it, until this review. Kudos.
